The Patient, Caregiver and Family Guide to the Perinatal Quality Standard was developed by Health Quality BC, in collaboration with a provincial committee and Perinatal Services BC, as a helpful resource for the perinatal population, including pregnant women/people, newborns, and their family/chosen caregivers who are involved with and experience perinatal care throughout the patient journey.

The guide provides useful information about the Perinatal Quality Standard and outlines what high-quality care looks like to support patients to make informed decisions in collaboration with their health care team.

About the Perinatal Quality Standard

The Perinatal Quality Standard was developed to advance high-quality perinatal care in BC. It includes nine priority areas (standards) to guide improvement work where they are needed most.

Quality Standards describe what it means to provide and receive high-quality health care. The standards support people to understand the care offered by their health care system, and to make informed decisions in partnership with their health care teams.
