British Columbia Perinatal Data Registry (BCPDR)
The British Columbia Perinatal Data Registry (BCPDR) is a comprehensive clinical information resource that captures data from obstetrical and neonatal medical records for nearly 100% of births in BC. This includes deliveries from more than 60 hospitals across the province, as well as home births attended by registered midwives.
Collecting data on approximately 45,000 births each year, the BCPDR also records neonatal transfers and readmissions occurring within the first 28 days of life. Since achieving full provincial coverage on April 1, 2000, the registry has accumulated information on over one million births.
To ensure accuracy and reliability, Perinatal Services BC (PSBC) applies rigorous data quality processes and business rules to all submissions. These measures help maintain a consistently high level of data integrity across the province.
PSBC provides secure access to BCPDR data to support evidence‑based, public‑interest research and analytics aimed at improving maternal, fetal, and neonatal health. Through this work, PSBC partners with clinicians, researchers, health system leaders, and policymakers to advance the quality and effectiveness of perinatal care in British Columbia.
